Just as certain foods form an important part of the Japanese dining experience so does food presentation and the tableware that it is served on and is approached with the fine attention to detail that is synonymous with Japanese culture. 

Moritsuke is a term used to describe the Japanese art of presenting food and has 3 key elements: the choice of food, the dinnerware and the placement of the food on the dinnerware.  With these 3 elements perfectly executed the diner will enjoy a fully sensory immersive experience and be fully present for the act of eating which is beleived will in turn encourage more mindful consumption and a greater enjoyment of the meal.

Adhering to the traditional practice of moritsuke each component of a meal is served in a separate vessel or grouped together in distinct areas of a larger vessel.  For this reason the colour, texture, shape and material of the dinnerware is of great importance.

The Nagare Collection has been designed with this aesetic in mind.  The textural surface design is created to be seen when dressed with food and is integral to the collection. Drawing on the minimalistic concept of ma, Japanese plates will generally be at least 30% empty - the negative space left on the plate focusing the diner on the food. 

The recycled paper material draws parallels with the urushi lacquered wooden bowls and dishes traditionally crafted in natural based materials such as carved wood or moulded paper and coated in a harvested tree-sap based resin which produces a highly durable but biodegradable form of tableware.

Available in earthy tortoiseshell effect and graphite black the Nagare tableware collection offers a blank canvas for food presentation and aims to encourage presence of mind and contemplation of the food placed upon it thus in turn bringing greater pleasure to the act of eating through all of the senses.
